Arthroscopic partial Meniscectomy is not better than sham procedure

Recently; studies done by a team of researchers at the university of Helsinki in Finland suggests that arthroscopic partial Meniscectomy is not better than sham procedure.
Surgeons perform this arthroscopic procedure to alleviate pain and symptoms of the injured knee meniscus.
A randomized study performed in which random people was selected to receive either the operation "arthroscopic partial Meniscectomy" or the Sham procedure that mimic the operation and results find that there is no difference between pain symptoms and other measures of quality of life between the two groups.
Study conducted over 146 patients between the ages of 35 and 65 who suffered from knee pain for at least three months in a trial in which they were randomized to either undergo an arthroscopic partial meniscectomy or a "sham" procedure that simulate  an arthroscopy.
The sham group was held in the operating and recovery rooms for the same amount of times as the surgery group.

All patients received the same walking aids and instructions for exercises, taking over-the-counter painkillers as required.
The researchers found that there were no significant differences between the real surgery group and the sham group.
The study is published in journal in the New England Journal of Medicine. (ANI)

Gene Therapy – An Overview

What does Gene Therapy Mean :-
Gene therapy means changing the denes inside your own body cells in order to stop a certain disease progression and treatment purposes. As genes are the carriers of your genetic code that determines every thing about you…. Your body shape and function. This is because your genes carry what is called DNA that is the gene code for your body that is used by your body cells for protein manufacturing  that is used by your body to do a certain job e.g make you taller or determine any other character in your own body.
Gene Therapy – An Overview
Now; what if some of the genes doesn’t work properly within your body, of course this would cause improper protein production and may causes diseases. Hence the role of the gene therapy is to replace the improperly functioning gene in an attempt to cure the developed disease of produce a certain changes within your body to render your body able to combat the disease more efficently.
It is worth to say that gene therapy holds a great promises for treating most of our untreatable disease like cancer, heart disease, diabetes mellitus and hemophilias.
How does gene therapy works:
There are many several ways used in gene therapy to get gene therapy best results including:
•    Replacing mutated genes or missing genes:
This approach nowadays is the most common approach in gene therapy revoultion. Some cells became diseased due to mutations – alteration – in their specific genes which is always permanent mutations. Hence; researchers aiming at replacing the missing or mutated genes to treat the resultant disease.
Gene Therapy – An Overview
•    Changing the regulating gene:
One of the gene therapy modules is that, turning of the mutated genes that cause the disease so they are no longer promote the progress of the disease so that disease progress inhibited.
•    Rendering diseased cells more prominent to patients immune system
In some diseade the patient immune systems doesn’t attack the diseased cells because of its inability to recognize them – the diseased cells – so that one of the inciming gene therapy strategies inculde that making the diseased gene more prominent to the immune system to get identified as an intrudent and hence removed.

Depression Treatment With Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation

Depression is a  medical disorder that affects both body and mind. Depression affect how person feel, think and beahve. Depression resemble an increasing health problem may be due to the Luxury life welife nowadays.
Treatment of depression using antidepressant agents is controversial as many patient feel satisfied with the results of their treatment and on the other hand others are frustrated and calin ineffectiveness of these antidepressant medications they received.
Electroconvulsive  therapy has been trusted as an effective treatment for depression but has the side effects on memory thus wasn’t commonly used. And patient with resistant cases of depression were awainting a new treatment the put an end to their suffer and misery. In 2009 FDA aprroved Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation as treatment for depression for those resistant cases who gain no benefits form the calssic antidepressant medications.
Whoever transcranial magnetic stimulation is an approved treatmet for depression it has limitations, transcranial magnetic rstimulation would be beneficial for patient who cant tolerate antidepressant medications and not work with them. Depression treatment with transcranial magnetic stimulation vary; some patient start to feel better during the first week of treamtnet and others don’t.
But the real advantage of the transcranial magnetic stimulation as an approved treatment for depression is that the fewer side effects it has. But on the other hand there is risk of relapse that still not revealed. Also treatment of depression via transcranial magnetic stimulation still have some problems with insurance coverage. But it is more likely for transcranial magnetic stimulation to get insurance coverage due to its efficacy as antidepressant treatment.

Osteoporosis means  a porous bone, osteoporosis is a disease that affects bone leading to decreased bone mineral content resulting in fragile, weak and brittle.  Osteoporosis usually affects females after menopause, also males are affected by osteoporosis at older age.
Exercise Keep Your bone safe and prevent Osteoporosis
There is a wrong idea that in an osteoporotic patient exercise should be avoided as this may lead to fractures…..but it is totally WRONG exercise would help you to strengthen your muscle and bone by increase calcium and mineral deposition in bones.
Osteoporosis is a leading cause to disability in elderly women, so it is of utmost importance to take care of your bone mineralization throughout your life not only when getting older. Exercising and healthy nutrition will help you gain strong bone and decrease bone turnover.
 Exercise and bone …the benefits
We always say that it is never too late to start exercising. After menopause the rate of bone turnover and loss in women increases greatly and this is should be avoided via exercising as exercising will keep your muscles stronger and improves bone mineralization thus decrease the rate of bone loss. Researchers revealed that the rate of bone loss in people how have regular muscular exercise is slower that those who don’t.
Exercise Keep Your bone safe and prevent Osteoporosis
For postmenopausal women, regular physical activity can:
•    Increase your muscle strength
•    Improve your balance
•    Make you better able to carry out daily tasks and activities
•    Maintain or improve your posture
•    Relieve or decrease pain
•    Improve your sense of well-being
Before starting you should:
Consult your doctor to determine the best exercising program for you after assessing your
•    Bone density
•    Your fitness and general health
Types of Exercises recommended for osteoporosis patients:
•    Strength training exercises, especially those for the back
•    Weight-bearing aerobic activities
•    Flexibility exercises
•    Stability and balance exercises
As we said earlier you should consult your doctor for the best program and exercise that suits your case as there are varying degrees of osteoporosis so you have to a sk your doctor or physical therapist whether you're at risk of osteoporosis-related problems, and find out what exercises are appropriate for you.
Strength training
This training done using free weights, weight machines, resistance bands or water exercises in order to render your muscles stronger in your arms and upper spine. Osteoporosis can cause compression fractures in your spinal column. These fractures often lead to a stooped posture, increasing the pressure along the front of your spinal column, and result in even more compression fractures. Exercises that gently stretch your upper back, strengthen the muscles between your shoulder blades and improve your posture can all help to reduce harmful stress on your bones and maintain bone density.
Weight-bearing aerobic activities
This include doing aerobic exercise on your feet, with your bones supporting your weight. For example walking, dancing, low-impact aerobics, elliptical training machines, stair climbing and gardening.
Flexibility Exercises
This will help you to move your joint in their full range of mobility and helps you to maintain a good muscle strength and prevent muscle injury also slow down mineral loss
Stability and balance exercises
This is so important exercise for patients with osteoporosis to allow muscles to work altogether in harmony to help motions smoothly and decrease falls that may lead to pathological fractures.
By the end we conclude that osteoporosis is a preventable disease and you can keep your bone strong via regular exercising and Healthy nutrition

A recent study done in University of Chicago about the connection between sleep and weight loss revealed that persons who sleep lessthan normal have tendency not to burn or lose their fat easily. In this study researches study the realation between sleep and weight loss they divided the volunteers into tow groups one of them were left to sleep only for 5.5 hours while the other group slept for 8.5 hours and after forteen days of giving the same caloric intake to all voulnteers and researchers found that the groupthat slept more have lost their weights and burnt their fat by the same amount however the group that slept only 5.5 hour lost less fat and more muscle.
Sleep and Weight loss
Other sleep and weight loss experts say the study's findings are very significant, since few studies have looked at the relationship between sleep deprivation and metabolism. A study like this one, experts say, adds to the growing body of knowledge on the negative impact of not getting enough sleep. They also say the small size of the study is typical of research that carefully monitors sleep and metabolic processes.

Depression and Distress Difficult to be noticed

Depression and Distress Difficult to be noticed, a result of a study by the University of Leicester  concluded that; nursing staff have a considerable difficulty in the diagnosis and detection of depression and distress.
This results make the researchers team start to plan to develop a strategy that help in identifing mood disorders . In the NHS 400,000 nurses provide valuable support to those suffering a range a physical and mental illnesses but struggle to detect depression in the early stages. Nurses are often very capable of forming good therapeutic relationships and provide a great deal of psychological support which is highly valued. However their ability to do this is increasingly under-pressure from high workloads and little funding for professional development.
In another study that tested  the ability of nurses to detect distressed patients and found half were missed until distress became severe.
